Archiving & Preservation Policy

Ensuring Permanent Access to Scholarly Research

The Journal is committed to the long-term preservation of its scholarly content. We employ a multi-layered archiving strategy to ensure that all published research remains accessible to the global community, even in the event of technical failure or if the journal ceases publication.

Archival Procedure

Our systematic approach to digital preservation follows a three-step protocol:

  1. Automatic Harvesting: Upon publication, all articles are automatically ingested into the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). This ensures that a copy is stored independently of the journal's primary server.
  2. Decentralized Storage: We utilize LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) technology. This system distributes identical copies of the journal’s content across a network of global library servers.
  3. Metadata Redundancy: Detailed metadata for every article is deposited with Crossref. This ensures that research remains discoverable via its persistent DOI (Digital Object Identifier) even if primary files are moved.

Infrastructure & Recovery

The Journal maintains high-tier digital infrastructure to protect against data loss:

  • Server Backups: Daily incremental and weekly full-system backups are performed on secure, off-site cloud servers.
  • Format Migration: To avoid digital obsolescence, we store content in standard PDF and XML formats, which are monitored for future compatibility.
  • Cessation Plan: If the journal stops operating, the archives stored in the PKP PN and LOCKSS network will be triggered for open public access to ensure the research is never lost.
